英宗 (宋)

北宋 fifth emperor Eisō

Eisō (February 16, 1032 - January 25, 1067) was the fifth emperor of the Northern Song Dynasty. His personal name was initially Zongshi, later changed to Sho. His biological father, Prince Pu Zhao Yun譲, was a cousin of Emperor Jinzong. His mother was Ren, a concubine of Zhao Yun譲.

When Emperor Jinzong died without an heir, Eisō of the collateral line ascended the throne as the fifth emperor. Eisō was an intelligent person and attempted to initiate reforms to rebuild the finances that had been ruined by foreign war expenses, but the forces opposing the reforms were strong, and the Pu議 arose over the treatment of his father, Zhao Yun譲.

Furthermore, Eisō himself was frail and died of illness after only four years on the throne, so the reforms ended in failure.
