金髪のジェニー
「金髪のジェニー」（Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair）は、アメリカの作曲家スティーブン・フォスターが1854年に作詞・作曲した歌曲です。原題を直訳すると「薄茶色の髪のジニー」となりますが、日本では津川主一氏の訳詞以来、「金髪のジェニー」という題名が定着しています。
この歌は、フォスターの妻であるジェーン・デニー・マクダウェルを想って作られたという説が有力です。ジェーンは開業医の娘で、1850年にフォスターと結婚し、翌年には娘が誕生しました。しかし、フォスターの音楽活動と生活の困窮から夫婦関係は悪化し、1860年には別居状態となり、フォスターは1864年に亡くなるまで家族と離れて暮らしました。「金髪のジェニー」が作曲された1854年頃には、既に夫婦の不仲が始まっていたとされ、歌詞には別れた恋人への郷愁が込められていると解釈されています。
