アブル＝フザイル・ズファル・ブン・アル＝ハーリス・アル＝キラービー

アブル＝フザイル・ズファル・ブン・アル＝ハーリス・アル＝キラービー（694/5年没）は、7世紀末のイスラーム世界における第二次内乱期に、有力な部族連合であるカイス族の指導者として活躍した人物です。彼はウマイヤ朝や、同じくアラブ部族であるカルブ族をはじめとする敵対勢力と激しい戦いを繰り広げました。最終的にはウマイヤ朝のカリフ、アブドゥルマリクとの間で和解が成立し、ウマイヤ朝に帰順しました。

生涯

ズファルは、アラブ部族であるアムル族の出身です。656年に始まったイスラーム世界の第一次内乱（第一次フィトナ）では、アーイシャの軍勢に加わり、ラクダの戦いでアリー・ブン・アビー・ターリブと戦いました。翌年には、シリア総督であったムアーウィヤ（後のウマイヤ朝の創始者）の下で、スィッフィーンの戦いに参加し、再びアリーと対峙しました。ムアーウィヤの死後、その息子のヤズィード1世に仕え、683年のハッラの戦いでは、ジュンド・キンナスリーン（シリア北部の軍事区）の軍を率いて、ウマイヤ朝に対する反乱軍と戦いました。

ヤズィード1世が死去すると、ウマイヤ朝の支持基盤であるカルブ族が勢力を拡大し、これに不満を抱いた北シリアのカイス族は、ズファルの指導のもとでカルブ族のキンナスリーン総督を追放しました。そして、ウマイヤ朝に対抗してカリフを称したアブドゥッラー・ブン・アッ＝ズバイルを支持するようになりました。684年には、カイス族とカルブ族の対立はマルジュ・ラーヒトの戦いとして頂点に達しましたが、この戦いでカイス族は大敗を喫し、ズファルはユーフラテス川沿いのカルキースィヤーに逃れて、ここを拠点としました。

その後、ズファルはカイス族を率いて、主にシリア砂漠でカルブ族に対する襲撃を繰り返しました。しかし、686年頃からは、同じカイス系の部族であるスライム族と、キリスト教を信仰していたタグリブ族の間で激しい対立が起こり、その紛争に巻き込まれることになりました。ズファルは両者の関係修復を試みましたが失敗し、結果としてスライム族とともにタグリブ族と戦うことになりました。

685年から691年にかけて、カルキースィヤーは3度にわたって包囲を受けましたが、ズファルはこれを耐え抜きました。最終的に、ウマイヤ朝のカリフであるアブドゥルマリクの説得を受け入れ、ウマイヤ朝との和解に至りました。アブドゥッラー・ブン・アッ＝ズバイルへの支持を放棄することと引き換えに、ウマイヤ朝の宮廷と軍隊で高い地位を得ました。ズファルのカイス族部隊はウマイヤ朝の軍隊に組み入れられ、タグリブ族との戦いも終結しました。ズファルはヒジュラ暦75年（694/5年）に死去しましたが、その子孫たちはズファルの地位と名声を受け継ぎ、アブドゥルマリクとその後のカリフたちの下でウマイヤ朝を支援し続けました。

人物

ズファルは、勇猛果敢な戦士であると同時に、部族間の複雑な関係を理解し、時には融和策を講じることのできる政治家でもありました。第一次内乱から第二次内乱にかけての激動の時代を生き抜き、自らの部族を率いて勢力を維持し続けた手腕は高く評価されています。
